Stabilizing Hitch Assemblies
How they work.
The modern stabilizer has friction pads which locate onto the tow ball when the hitch handle is fully depressed. It uses friction between the pads and the ball to prevent the caravan snaking.
Care has to be taken when hitching a caravan onto a vehicle.
Insure that the hitch assembly has fully located into the tow ball. The assembly handle will stay in the up position (fig 1), when lowered onto the tow ball this handle will fall into the travelling position (Fig 2)
Note the raised knob on top of the assembly, this will only raise and show green when the ball has been located in the assembly correctly (fig 3).
Once the tow ball has located correctly into hitch assembly the stabilising bar can be pushed down into position. Resistance should be felt when doing this (fig 4)
